The Family-Community-School Link (FCSL) is an initiative designed to strengthen the connection between schools, families, and local communities. The National Education Strategy aims to create a unified student support system by engaging families, supporting educators, and fostering partnerships with community organisations.

The FCSL was introduced as a pilot initiative in the Maltese state schools during the 2024-2025 scholastic year and serves as a crucial component of the Early Leaving from Education and Training Strategy (ELET), which was launched in July 2023. This strategy is aligned with the European Union’s objective of reducing the early school leaving rate to under 9% by 2030.

The primary aim of this initiative is to enhance educators’ support by creating opportunities for parents and guardians to participate and actively work collaboratively in their children’s education. Through the support of the National and European Union (EU) Funds, the service was initially launched in October 2024 in four schools, with plans to extend the initiative to 10 schools in 2025. Since January 2025, the programme has conducted 713 interventions and addressed 191 cases.
